Dreamy

The clarinet had set its tunes since the crack of the dawn, and the air was rife with the fragrance of festivity. After all her parents had planned not months but years in advance for this big day. All around you could see busy bees neck deep into some or the other work assigned to them. There by the living room her uncle was giving the last minute restrictions to the florist…there by the lawn in the makeshift tent her father was administering the décor…somewhere within the confines of the bedroom her mom went tense chalking the itinerary of the next day’s rituals with her aunt…the whole clan was gearing up for the grand finale…her wedding!!!

And here our lady was…in her own room…surrounded by her wedding trousseau and her jewellery…those pieces of souvenir that personified the very truth of wedding to her. She caressed her fingers through the exquisite folds of the silk and through the breezy layers of the chiffon. She admired for the nth time each single piece of her jewellery…the solitaires, the strings of pearls, the jadau and the kundan. Oh! Life could never have been better...and she hummed to herself…

Diamonds cut bright and pearls shinning white

Rubies and emeralds fitting on my jewels tight

These are few of my favorite things…

Clothes in silk and chiffons in pink

Purses by Gucci, shoes looking so dishy

These are some of my favorite things

When am bored

I simply remember my favorite things

And then I don't feel so bad

As she hummed along, Madame fell into a slumber , lost in her dreams about the new journey that she was about to start…her dream man…the knight in shining armour…he who looks so dashing and a wallet to match…

Suddenly she felt a shrill cry come from somewhere…the noise started growing louder. For a while she felt it was the shehnai…no this sound is different…and as if by reflex action her hand went onto switch off the alarm clock…SHIT!!! This was indeed a dream…the dull reality of everyday life dawned upon her as she woke up…An era had ended
